In the late 90’s I was competing in the Firefighter Combat Challenge. The active lifestyle and training helped me get into the best shape of my life. It was during this time I met Liz who would become my wife. We blended our families and kept busy raising our four children (Alex, Nick, Garrett, and Eva). I continued an active lifestyle for many years that included triathlons, weightlifting, and snow skiing.
Like many people, as time wore on my commitment to a healthy lifestyle slipped and by 2015 I found myself in the worst shape of my life. I had a health scare that made me realize I needed to get back to a healthy lifestyle. I had dabbled in CrossFit throughout the years but never really made the commitment to stick with it. I was ready to make the commitment and stick with it this time. Having known Mel and Jacinda for years through the CrossFit and medical community making CrossFit Raw Steel my home was an easy decision. I also made significant changes in my diet by going vegan. The changes paid off and again I found myself fit and healthy. It was during this process that I started thinking about the next chapter in my life. All of our children were grown and I was getting ready to retire from a 25 year career as a firefighter/paramedic with the Springfield Fire Department.
Believing in the foundations of CrossFit and seeing first hand the benefits along with a lifelong desire to help people drove my decision to get my Level I Certificate. I want people to know that no matter your level of fitness or limitation, CrossFit can be scaled/adapted to accommodate you.
